A Sweet Tradition to Celebrate Diwali: My Favourite Laddu Recipe
First Off
For millions of people worldwide, Diwali, the festival of lights, is a time of joy, harmony, and tradition. Making and distributing delectable sweets is one of the sweetest customs related to Diwali. And homemade laddus are the perfect way to celebrate! We'll share a traditional and beloved laddu recipe in this blog post to bring some sweetness to your Diwali festivities.
Laddus's Significance on Diwali
Laddus are spherical, sweet treats made with flour, coconut, semolina, or chickpea flour, among other ingredients. During the Diwali season, these delightful treats are a way to spread happiness and love, symbolising the sweet moments of life. Although there are many different kinds of laddus, the Besan laddu made with gramme flour is a perennial favourite.
How to Make Besan Laddus
Components:
- Two cups besan (gramme flour)
- One cup of clarified butter, or ghee
- One cup of sugar powder
- One-half tsp cardamom powder
- A small handful finely chopped nuts (pistachios, cashews, and almonds)
- A small pinch of optional saffron strands
- Ghee is used to form the laddus.
Guidelines:
1. Roasting the Gramme Flour:
- Heat one cup of ghee over low to medium heat in a heavy-bottomed pan.
- Combine the gramme flour with the ghee and cook over low heat. Always stir to prevent burning. The gramme flour will smell nutty and turn from pale yellow to golden brown over time. This procedure takes fifteen to twenty minutes.
2. Making the Sugar Syrup:
- Heat the powdered sugar and two tablespoons of water in a separate pan over low heat. For a thick syrup, stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
3. Mixing the Sugar Syrup and Roasted Gramme Flour:
- Gradually add the sugar syrup to the roasted gramme flour and thoroughly stir. Reduce the flame to prevent lumps.
- Include the saffron strands and cardamom powder (if using). Stir the mixture until it forms the consistency of crumbly dough. Take it off of the hob.
4. Forming the Laddus:
- Permit the blend to cool down a little. Take tiny portions and form them into laddus the size of golf balls while it's still warm.
- Press a piece of chopped nut (pistachio, almond, or cashew) into the centre of each laddu to garnish it.
5. Storing and Serving:
- Before placing the laddus in an airtight container, allow them to cool completely. They hold their freshness for a few days.
Deepawali Glow
Besan laddus are a symbol of love and unity rather than just a delicious treat. A Diwali custom that fosters camaraderie and fortifies the ties of love and friendship is sharing these laddus with loved ones.
Keep in mind that the love and care you put into making this traditional laddu recipe for Diwali matters just as much as the ingredients. These delicious treats will surely bring warmth and happiness to your Diwali celebrations, whether you're sharing them with your neighbours or your family. Joyous Diwali!
